The Abia State Government has announced the cancellation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025.
A statement personally endorsed by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna and made available to newsmen on Thursday, said the decision is to enable candidates participating in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to freely access their examination centers without restrictions.
In the interim, the State Government urged all residents to take personal responsibility in cleaning their homes, surroundings, gutters, and drainage systems closest to them, adding that a clean and healthy environment remains a collective responsibility.
The Commissioner also reminded the public that maintaining a clean environment is essential to promoting good health and preventing disease outbreaks.
While appreciating Abians for their understanding and co-operation, the Commissioner pledged that the State Government will continue to prioritize both the health and environmental aspirations of the citizenry.
The statement reads: “The Abia State Government wishes to inform the general public, especially residents across the state, that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, has been cancelled.
