‎Otti Unveils Aircraft Honoring Chinua Achebe, Igwe Alfred Achebe

‎Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has unveiled two newly acquired Boeing 737-800NG aircraft by United Nigeria Airlines, named in honor of literary icon Prof. Chinua Achebe and the Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe.

‎The ceremony took place at Nesto Aviation Services, Ikeja, Lagos.

‎Speaking at the event, Governor Otti thanked United Nigeria Airlines Chairman, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, for honoring the two distinguished sons of Igboland. “For remembering to honor our people, you will be honored,” he said.

‎The Governor commended the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for reforms driving private-sector participation and the establishment of an aircraft leasing company.

‎He also appreciated the Minister’s support for the Abia Airport project, revealing that the runway is now at an advanced stage.

‎Otti said Abia State remains ready to serve as a hub for United Nigeria Airlines.

‎On his part, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, disclosed that while the initial plan was for an airstrip, Governor Otti met with President Tinubu and insisted on a full international airport, with Abia providing counterpart funding.

‎He assured that the Federal Government will soon begin funding other airport infrastructure.

‎In his remarks, United Nigeria Airlines CEO, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the naming reflects confidence in Nigeria’s aviation future and recognises Chinua Achebe’s global literary legacy and Igwe Alfred Achebe’s leadership and national contributions.

‎Igwe Alfred Achebe expressed appreciation for the honor, describing it as humbling and meaningful.

‎The highpoint was the official unveiling of the two aircraft by Governor Otti.
