The general public is hereby informed that the Monthly Sanitation Exercise for the month of September will hold on Saturday, September 26, 2026, across Abia State between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The exercise was announced in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Environment, Obioma Chidinma Success, on behalf of the Commissioner, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna.
According to the statement, movement of persons and vehicles during the period shall be restricted, except those on essential duties who will be required to present on demand, valid identification or authentic authorization for exemption.
The statement further enjoined Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of Local Government Councils, Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate accordingly.
It added that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies, as well as business premises, are to remain closed on Saturday, September 26, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., while tippers will be available to cart away refuse.
The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual take-off point for deployment.
Residents are directed to stay at home, clean up their surroundings and work with nose masks on.
The statement warned that defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
