There is tension in Isiala Ahaba community, Oloko Clan, Ikwuano LGA of Abia State over the alleged self-coronation of one Chief Charles O. Ukattah as traditional ruler.
This is as the Unity Forum for Ikwuano has asked Chief Ukattah to immediately stop parading himself as the Eze of Isiala Ahaba, describing his action as illegal, sacrilegious and alien to Oloko tradition.
In a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Chairman, Emmanuel Obiora and Secretary, Chima Onyedika, the group said Chief Ukattah emerged as Eze-elect but abandoned the laid down procedure for the emergence of an Eze in Oloko and Abia State.
The Forum alleged that even after the Oloko Clan Council and the Ikwuano Council of Ndi Eze warned him to desist, Chief Ukattah went ahead to organise a coronation ceremony for himself and now moves about as HRH.
According to the group, being selected as Eze-elect and presented to the Local Government Council does not automatically make one an Eze and cannot be a basis for coronation.
The group insisted that under Abia State chieftaincy laws, no Eze-elect can be coronated or recognised as Eze until he is issued with a Staff of Office by the Executive Governor of Abia State through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
”Anyone dressing and parading himself as an Eze without a Staff of Office is an impostor. It is a disgrace that must be exposed to serve as a deterrent to others,” the Forum stated.
The Unity Forum urged other Eze-elects in Oloko Clan to be properly guided and avoid such illegality.
It further called on the leadership of Ikwuano Local Government, the Ikwuano Council of Ndi Eze and the Abia State Government to intervene urgently to save the traditional institution from ridicule.
In a related development, a source at the Abia State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, disclosed that he even uses a customised plate number that portrays him as a traditional ruler.
