Abia State government wish to inform all Principals and Head Teachers of Public Schools, Proprietors of Private School, Nursery, Primary, and Secondary, Unity Schools, Military and Paramilitary Schools, and Faith-Based Schools in Abia State, that it has commenced 2025 Digital Annual School Census.
The census which aims to gather accurate data on schools in the state, including public, private, unity, military, paramilitary, and faith-based schools, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
A press statement signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Abia State, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, stated that all concerned schools are required to log in to the NEMIS portal using their official school code to submit their data between May 20 and May 30, 2025.
According to the statement, in order to facilitate access, the portal is compatible with various devices including smartphones, tablets, or computers, stating that schools may use any available internet-enabled device to complete the process.
The statement advised schools without a school code to contact their Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) to obtain one free of charge.
However, the Ministry emphasized the importance of compliance, warning that failure to participate in the census may result in schools being classified as non-existent and potentially shut down.
The government also called on stakeholders, including Mayors, Traditional Rulers, church leaders, and School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) chairmen, to ensure that all schools within their jurisdiction comply with the directive.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Digital Annual School Census is expected to provide valuable insights into the state of education in Abia State, enabling the government to make informed decisions and improve the quality of education.
