Abia State House of Assembly has welcomed a petition submitted by the people of Ezeogwu village in Owaza, Ukwa West local government area of Abia State against their Umuakali Omuma neighbours of Rivers State on a lingering boundary dispute.
The two communities had been in loggerheads over the ownership of a boundary area between the two states.
During plenary, the Abia State House of Assembly, took urgent steps by handing the matter over to the Committee on Security and Boundary Matters to look into and revert back to the House.
Responding to the petition by the people of Alaoji, Obisi village in Ala iyi autonomous community in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, against the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the House referred it to its Committee on Public Petitions to look into it and report back in three weeks.
Also, the Save-Our-Soul call by the people of Amaekpu Item Development Union, Bende local government area about their only link bridge to Agbaja Nkporo which is in the verge of collapse, received attention from the House, as it directed the Committee on Public Petitions to look into the matter.
The House also the motion on the urgent need to curb the desecration of Aba waterside river, as sponsored by Stephen Ucheonye (Aba Central).
Also during plenary, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa announced the constitution of their new Standing Committees with Anderson Akaliro (Umuahia North) heading the committee on South East Development Commission.
Meanwhile, Emeka Obioma (Umuahia South) is to head the Standing Committee on Greater Aba Development Agency, Greater Ohafia Development Agency and Umuahia Capital Development Authority, whereas Anthony Chinasa (Umuahia Central) will head the Committee on Food Security and Nutrition.
