The Imo State Police Command said it dismantled an alleged IPOB/ESN hideout in Nguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, on April 23, 2026, and recovered arms, ammunition, and surveillance drones.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Anthony Placid said the operation was intelligence-led and based on information from a detained IPOB/ESN commander, Ebube Uchenna Mmaduakolam, also known as “Ebube Virus.”
Three suspects were arrested at the scene and remain in custody, police said. They are providing information on the group’s logistics, personnel structure, and planned operations.
Items recovered include two general-purpose machine guns, 3,115 rounds of ammunition, one AK-47 rifle, one pump-action shotgun, several surveillance drones, and Biafra currency in various denominations.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu commended the operatives for their professionalism and said the recovery had reduced the group’s operational capacity in the South-East.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens.
