The Councillor representing Oboro Ward 2 in the Ikwuano Legislative Council, Hon. Nkem Uba, has urged pupils and students in his ward to remain committed to academic excellence and uphold values of hard work.
He said Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has shown strong commitment to improving the quality of education in the state.
Hon. Uba made the call during a visit to schools in Oboro Ward 2, where he distributed 10,000 exercise books. The distribution, which began on May 11, 2026, covered students from Nursery 2 to Senior Secondary School 3. Teachers in the benefiting schools also received learning materials and bags of rice.
Benefiting schools include: Amaoba Secondary School, Amaoba Ime Oboro; Amaoba Central Primary School; Divine Excel Sharon Academy (Primary/Secondary); Divine Will Academy (Nursery/Primary); Migrant Farmers Nursery/Primary School; United Umudike Community Junior Secondary School; and Model Primary School, Umudike.
Others are: Umudike Community Primary School; Sancta Maria Holy Trinity Nursery/Primary School; Behold He Cometh Nursery/Primary School, Umudike; Michael Okpara University Staff School; Bethel Academy Assemblies of God, Amaoba Ikputu Oboro; Speedy Learners International Junior Secondary School; and MOUAU Demonstration Secondary School, Umudike.
Beyond the schools, Hon. Uba donated bags of rice to students in the male and female hostels of the Faculty of Law, Abia State University Extension, Umudike. He also provided bags of rice to the management and staff of the benefiting primary and secondary schools.
The councillor further facilitated the installation of solar-powered street lights approved by Governor Otti to illuminate areas around the university gates, hostels, reading halls, and sections of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
Addressing beneficiaries, Hon. Uba commended pupils and students for their academic performance, describing education as a vital tool for societal development.
Residents and students in Oboro Ward 2 applauded the gesture and pledged continued support for Governor Otti’s administration. They described Hon. Uba as a committed grassroots leader whose performance aligns with the governor’s development-driven approach.
Hon. Uba thanked Governor Otti for the opportunity to serve, and appreciated his team, constituents, the management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and the Faculty of Law, ABSU Extension, Umudike, for their cooperation.
He also urged residents to register and obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card to be eligible to vote in the 2027 elections.
