The National Working Committee, NWC, of the Accord Party has endorsed Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for a second term and directed its Abia State chapter to mobilize support for his re-election.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, when the Accord Party National Chairman, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, led members of the NWC and the Abia State Working Committee on a courtesy visit to the Governor.
Prof. Imumolen said Governor Otti has performed exceptionally well and deserves support across party lines.
“For me, development is beyond party lines. Once there is progress, the opposition should acknowledge it and appreciate good leadership when they see it,” he said.
“If he has done this much, we believe as a party we should stand with him and ensure continuity even after 2027. We will work with the Governor and align with his leadership and directives,” he added.
On behalf of the NWC, Prof. Imumolen instructed the Abia State chapter to support and work for Otti’s re-election.
Also speaking, the Accord Party National Secretary, Malam Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo, assured that the party would not field a governorship candidate in Abia in 2027.
“On behalf of our party, I want to assure Your Excellency that no candidate from our party will contest the governorship position in Abia State. The NWC has directed the State Executive to join hands with the Labour Party and work for the good of the people of Abia State. Let the good work continue,” Djungo stated.
Joining the meeting virtually, Labour Party National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, commended Prof. Imumolen for acknowledging good governance in Abia.
She noted that opposition politicians often criticize for criticism’s sake, but Accord Party’s stance was a welcome development.
“It gladdens my heart to hear that nobody will be contesting from Accord Party. Sincerely, we are very grateful,” Senator Usman said.
Responding, Governor Otti thanked the Accord Party delegation for prioritizing the welfare and security of the people over party politics.
“The whole essence of politics is about the welfare and security of our people. If I see someone who can do this job better than me, I will quit and let the person continue,” Otti said.
“We will work together at both the state and national level. There is a lot we can achieve working together,” he added.
The meeting was attended by other NWC members, as well as Accord Party chairmen from Abia, Imo, and a few other states. Governor Otti was joined by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, commissioners, and senior government appointees.
