‎The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has dissolved all tactical teams within the Command and inaugurated a new set of officers screened by the Management Team.

‎Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said in a statement on Tuesday that the move complies with the vision and directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, and is aimed at ensuring a professional, humane, accountable and effective Police Force.

‎According to the statement, the officers underwent a comprehensive orientation to ensure a high degree of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

‎The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), headed by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu, a seasoned officer with over 15 years of service, is tasked with handling all violent crimes across the state.

‎The Unit will be supported by a Civilian Oversight Board comprising representatives from the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, human rights groups, the Nigerian Bar Association and Amnesty International, among others.

‎It was further revealed that the Command has provided an operational facility for the Unit at the Orji Uzor Kalu Bridge, Aba, adding that the facility meets required standards, including proper detention conditions that respect suspects’ rights, with a liaison office in Umuahia to enhance coordination.

‎At the conclusion of the orientation, CP Isa and his Management Team stressed professionalism and zero tolerance for corruption.

‎He urged the officers to shun impunity, extortion, involvement in civil matters and cases outside the Unit’s mandate. They were also cautioned against unlawful detention and arrests by proxy.

‎CP Isa stressed intelligence-led policing and mandated that response time to violent crimes must not exceed five minutes.

‎He further emphasised the protection of suspects’ rights during investigations, regular briefing, and proper supervision of subordinates to avoid vicarious liability.

‎Officers were also encouraged to continually study the Police Act 2020 (as amended), the Constitution, and the Criminal Code as applicable.

‎CP Isa charged officers to be exemplary in conduct and to project a positive image for the Force through professionalism, accountability and effective service delivery.

‎The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to entrenching professionalism through proactive and intelligence-led policing, accountability, and collaboration with the public to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
