UMUAHIA — The Abia State Police Command has pledged stronger collaboration with the State Fire and Emergency Services to enhance coordinated response to emergencies and fire-related incidents.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergency, Mr. Chukwunneye Alajemba, and the Chief Fire Officer of the State Fire Service.
According to CP Afolabi, the visit was aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration between the Police and the Fire Service.
He commended Governor Alex Otti for the ongoing retrofitting works and upgrading of equipment in the State Fire Service, stressing that “every agency plays a vital role and improved collaboration will yield greater results.”
The CP emphasised the need for coordinated emergency response, intelligence sharing on fire-related incidents such as arson, joint training and simulation exercises, and seamless communication during emergencies. He said this will ensure timely intervention, protection of lives and property, and effective post-incident investigations.
He added that he obtained the Fire Service emergency contact lines for Umuahia and Aba and had circulated them to all Divisions and Formations of the Command to aid arson investigations and other emergencies.
Receiving the CP, Mr. Alajemba, the Chief Fire Officer and their team expressed appreciation for the visit and assured him of their “full support and cooperation.”
CP Afolabi was later taken on a tour of the Fire Service facility, which is currently undergoing renovation.
