Abia CP Engages Umuahia Stakeholders On Community Safety Partnership

‎The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, has continued his Community Safety Partnership tour with a stakeholders’ engagement at Umuahia North Local Government Hall.

‎The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
‎
‎According to her, the meeting held on 03/10/2026 and brought together the Mayor of Umuahia North LGA, Chief Hon. Smart Iheoma, traditional rulers, community security vigilantes, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), youth and women groups, traders, farmers/herders groups, and other stakeholders drawn from Central Police Station Umuahia, Ubakala, World Bank, Ikwuano, Mike Okiro, and Ohuhu Divisional Police Headquarters.

‎During the interactive session, stakeholders raised concerns over inadequate manpower and logistics, unprofessional conduct by some officers, lack of collaboration, the need for continuous community engagement and enlightenment, and the need for training of local community security groups.
‎
‎Responding, CP Afolabi directed officers to strengthen collaboration with approved community security groups to address manpower challenges.
‎
‎He also announced the introduction of motorcycle patrols, noting that such patrol teams should consist of not less than three motorcycles and not more than six properly armed officers, to improve mobility and operational effectiveness in non-motorable areas.
‎
‎The CP assured that identified security concerns would be strategically addressed and disclosed that the Command has outlined capacity-building programmes focusing on intelligence gathering, crime mapping, proactive crime prevention, and professional development.
‎
‎He further directed that contact numbers of Divisional Police Headquarters and the Area Command be visibly displayed to enhance public access, including emergency lines, complaint response units, and other relevant command contacts.
‎
‎On preventive security, Afolabi advised residents to adopt basic safety measures such as the use of pedal and wheel locks for vehicles, maintaining good neighbourliness, and promptly reporting suspicious activities. He also encouraged community leaders to involve the Police in employment processes for proper profiling and documentation.

‎He assured local security groups of their inclusion in upcoming training programmes organized by the Command.
