President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has warned those hiding under the guise of the nationwide protest to threaten any geo-political zone of the country that the law enforcement agents will soon decend heavily on them.
The President who gave the warning on Sunday morning, in his nationwide broadcast to Nigerians amid the national protest code-named, #EndBadGovernance, pointed out that there is no room for ethnic bigotry in the country as his administration is working hard to build a virile nation.
He said that such threat should not arise in a democracy where the citizenry have equal rights and privileges as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The President said”, To those who have taken advantage of this protest to threaten any section of the country, be warned the law will soon catch up with you. There is no room for ethnic bigotry or threat in the Nigeria my administration is seeking to build”.
President Tinubu noted that democracy as a system of Government in practice in Nigeria, is better felt when the rights and privileges of every Nigerian is respected and protected.
He called on security agents to continue to ensure full protection of lives and property of innocent citizens of Nigeria irrespective of geo-political zone, reassuring that he is committed to building a just and prosperous nation where each person will enjoy the peace , freedom and meaningful livelihood that only democratic good governance can provide
Recall that reactions have trailed a socal media post calling on Igbos to vacate Lagos and Southwest of Nigeria and brace up for a massive #Igbomustgo protest from 20th to 30th August, 2024. Those who have condemned the post have argued that such threat is meant to profile the people of South-East geo-political zone.
Recall also that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, also condemned such ethnic profiling in a tweet he made on his X official account, saying, History has shown us the consequences of allowing hatred and bigotry to fester, as seen in Rwanda. What began with inflammatory rhetoric led to devastating outcomes. We must learn from these lessons and act decisively”.
