Employment of Teachers in Abia: Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Inaugurates 7 member Committee

The Commissioner for Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi, has inaugurated a seven-member committee charged with the responsibility of ensuring transparency in the selection process for the employment of teachers in Abia State.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Duru Marvellous, this initiative aims to enhance the quality of education in the state as well as underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to providing quality education for all pupils and students across Abia State.

The statement revealed that while speaking during the inauguration ceremony at his office, Elder Ubochi emphasized that the current administration prioritizes equity, fairness, and transparency.

The Commissioner urged the committee to carry out its responsibilities objectively, free from bias, and in close collaboration with the technical consultant to achieve the Governor’s vision of hiring capable, efficient, and qualified teachers.

While explaining that the selection process would be merit-based, requiring all applicants to undergo an examination for vetting after submitting their online applications, the release further stated that the Commissioner disclosed that the committee would commence its duties immediately.

He charged its members to strictly adhere to the terms of reference provided while expressing gratitude to, Governor Alex Otti, for his unwavering commitment to the education sector, demonstrated by allocating a substantial 20% of the state’s budget to education and initiating this recruitment process.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Dr. Uzoamaka Mbah, who also serves as the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) Secretary, expressed appreciation to the Governor for his dedication to improving education.

She also lauded the Commissioner for entrusting them with the responsibility, assuring him that the team would approach its assignment with diligence and work closely with the technical consultant to achieve the administration’s goals.

The release revealed that the committee, chaired by Dr. Uzoamaka Mbah, includes representatives from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, ASUBEB, and the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB). Mrs. Onyeanuna Christy from SEMB will serve as the committee’s secretary.
