Ebonyi Police Command Confirms Attack on Military Checkpoint

The Police Command in Ebonyi State on Friday confirmed the attack of a military checkpoint on the every-busy Amangwu Area of Amasiri-Owutu federal road in Edda Local Government of the state by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in Ebonyi, DSP Joshua Ukandu said the information available from the Owutu Police Division has it that some hoodlums attacked the military checkpoint in the early hours of Friday.

DSP Ukandu, said though it is not yet certain if there were casualties. The attack was carried out by yet-to-be-identified gunmen operating on a motorcycle.

Speaking on the situation, a source said that a soldier was killed while one of the gunmen was also killed by the soldiers during the attack.

In his words,“There was an attack this morning at the Amangwu Military Checkpoint and there 2 persons were killed. From the information available, a soldier was killed and one of the gunmen was also killed by the soldiers.

Southeastposts.com, gathered that the attack made people scamper for safety as motorists and commuters plying the federal road had to spend hours to ensure that normalcy had returned to the area.

Other people including elders of the community who spoke to newsmen, condemned the act, adding that those behind it were enemies of the state and the community.

They called on the security agents to go after the perpetrators of the act with a view to arresting and prosecuting them.
