Umunna stakeholders have urged Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Chima Anyaso, to step down for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.
Addressing a solidarity gathering in Bende LGA on Tuesday, the stakeholders from the Umunna bloc dismissed claims of a zoning arrangement for the seat as false.
They described Kalu as a “prolific striker with outstanding goal records” and said the constituency cannot afford to substitute him with a less experienced candidate.
The APC candidate for Bende North State Constituency, Orji Udeagha, said Kalu deserves another term, citing his performance in education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and power. He noted that Umunna held the seat for 16 years through Hon. Mba Aja and Hon. Nnenna Ukeje, and argued that Bende-Ikwuishi should be allowed to complete 16 years.
Other speakers including John Okezie, Uwakwe Benson, Chief Okezie Usim, Dr. Kalu Pascal, and APC Women Leader Ijeoma Anyaele, all endorsed Kalu for a third term.
Contributing, a former Bende LGA Chairman, Hon. Gabriel Okereke-Elendu, also said there has never been any rotational agreement in Bende and challenged proponents to produce evidence.
