‎Abia Police Command Maintains Position, says no Bomb was Discovered in Aba

‎Abia State Police Command has maintained that there was no bomb recovered in Aba, stressing that the statement by the Associate Pastor of the United Evangelical Church, Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba, online, alleging that the earlier statement of the Command clarifying the alleged bomb recovery in Aba was false.

‎In a statement on Wednesday night made available to newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Command clarified that the Associate Pastor who is making such insistence of the discovery of the bomb, is not an expert or a trained specialist in bomb detection.

‎The Command emphasised that because he is not an expert, he lacks the know-how to educate the public on what constitutes a bomb or explosive device.

‎DSP Chinaka revealed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogbor Hill, visited Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba to ascertain if it was a bomb.

‎The statement added, “On arrival at the area, the DPO met one Mr. Ezumini, who introduced himself as a member of the United Evangelical Church and narrated how an iron rod was removed by the military which was part of the pillars of their church removed in compliance with the directive to shift back in order to allow access for the ongoing government road construction in that area.

‎DSP Chinaka revealed that the DPO conducted a thorough search in the area to ascertain the alleged claim, emphasising that nothing related to bomb or explosive was found.

‎Continuing, “The Area Commander in company of the Explosive Ordinance Department personnel arrived moments later, inspected the vicinity and also found nothing. It is also a fact that the police is yet to be formally informed of any alleged recovery.

‎”Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) Abia State Police Command, were immediately deployed to comb the area to guarantee the safety of life and property of the residents.”

‎The Abia State Police Command, however, encouraged members of the public to go about their lawful activities.

‎It urged the public to report any suspected incident or activity of such to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, 08079210006, emphasising that the Nigerian Police Force is active even at the grassroots.

‎Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Abia State Police Command, CP Danladi Isa, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to its constitutional mandate of ensuring the protection of lives and property.

‎He equally assured that the police remains accessible to members of the public for collaboration on security issues.
