‎Aku Community: Police in Abia Warn Youths to Refrain From Taking Laws into Their Hands

‎Abia State Police Command says it is on top of the situation in Aku Community Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, advising youths not to take laws into their hands.

‎Recall that a youth leader in Okon, Aku-Ohafia, Abia State, Igwe Akuma Akwu, was shot dead on Friday, 2nd January by unknown gunmen, a development that sparked anger and led to destruction of many property in the community.

‎In a statement issued to journalists on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, revealed that normalcy had since been restored in the area following swift response of the Command under CP Danladi Isa.

‎The statement further said, “Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, deployed police operatives from Ohafia Divisional Headquarters, in addition with two tactical teams, to the area to restore and maintain law and order.

‎According to the statement, “Four injured victims were rushed to the hospital, where they are currently responding to treatment, while one death was recorded.”

‎The Command, however, called on members of the community to choose the path of peace and avoid any breakdown of law and order just as the statement advised them not to take the laws into their hands.

‎DSP Chinaka further revealed that suspects arrested in connection with the incident are currently undergoing interrogation and will be arranged in court as soon as investigation is concluded, adding that monitoring of the area continues to ensure maintenance of peace in the community.

‎She added that the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Isa, has also encouraged Abians to go about their lawful activities, remain law-abiding and desist from taking laws into their hands.
