The President and founder, Vision Africa International, Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha Ph.D, has reacted to the death of the founder of the defunct Diamond Bank Plc and a former chairman of MTN Nigeria, Pascal Dozie.
A statement issued by the family on Tuesday, said the business tycoon died in the early hours of Tuesday at the age of 85.
Pascal Dozie, born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, was raised in a Catholic home, with his father, Charles Dozie, serving as a catechist.
Reacting to the demise of the business tycoon in a statement he personally endorsed and made available to newsmen on Wednesday, Bishop Onuoha said the South-East, Nigeria at large has lost an icon who made valuable contributions in the Banking and Telecom industries.
He recalled that in 1990, Pascal Dozie founded Diamond Bank, which became one of Nigeria’s most respected financial institutions before its eventual merger with Access Bank while he later handed the reins to his son, Uzoma.
The Methodist cleric also noted the invaluable contribution late Pascal Dozie made in the Telecom industry, saying he was instrumental to the launching of MTN Nigeria, serving as its pioneer chairman and helping to lead the telecom revolution in the country.
The Global Peace Award Winner 2013, stated that the late Patriarch will be remembered for his leadership style which centered on humility, integrity, and long-term vision which earned him widespread recognition, stressing that he will be greatly missed.
In his words, “Indeed late Pascal Dozie will be remembered greatly for his sacrifices in the Banking and Telecom industries. He lived for humanity, serving with humanity which is a virtue that is missing among many serving the public.
“We in the South-East, Nigeria at large, have lost an icon, a Patriarch, who has left invaluable footprints in the anals of history. He indeed, lived a life of service.”
Bishop Onuoha, commiserated with the family of the late icon, Imo State Government, the people of South-East, Nigerian Government and every other person affected by the demise of the business tycoon, praying God to grant late Pascal Dozie eternal rest.
