Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, has procured eight new electricity transformers to tackle the 16-year power problem in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state.

Afikpo council area has been without electricity for 16 years, thus crippling both economic and social activities in the area.

It was gathered that eight new transformers were procured at the sum of N208 million.

The Commissioner for Power and Energy, Peter Ogeali, on Monday said the scheduled works as contained in the bill of engineering measurements and evaluation have been completed.

He revealed that in addition to the eight new transformers, five old ones have been refurbished and installed at different locations in the local government area.

The Commissioner explained that the delay in power supply in the area and some other parts of Ebonyi South senatorial zone was the relocation of high voltage lines between Nkalagu and Ntezi along the Enugu-Abakaliki Highway.
