‎Gov. Otti Breaks Ground for First Ukwa-East General Hospital

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the first Ukwa East General Hospital in Ohanku-Ndoki.

‎The project aligns with his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare across the state, making it accessible to all Abians.

‎Otti stated that the hospital will enhance healthcare delivery, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and strengthen emergency response.

‎He also revealed that scooping work had commenced from the end point of the reconstructed and commissioned Ohanku Road, Aba leading into the Ohanku community in Ukwa East LGA.

‎He thanked Eze Chibuzor Chinyere for donating land for the project and acknowledged requests from Hon. Chris Nkwonta, the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency representative.

‎The project is part of Otti’s vision for a responsive healthcare ecosystem, serving urban and rural communities.

‎Responding, former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, lauded Otti for prioritizing healthcare infrastructure, saying his administration will be remembered for its holistic approach.

‎On his part, Hon. Chris Nkwonta appreciated Otti for initiating the project, noting it’s the first General Hospital in Ukwa East since a cottage hospital was commissioned in 1961.

‎Contributing, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, noted Otti’s healthcare priorities, including renovating 11 Primary Healthcare Centres in Ukwa East.

‎He noted that, it is based on the commitment of Governor Otti to delivering quality, affordable and accessible healthcare that the Governor decided to build a functional world class General Hospital for the people of Ukwa East after renovating and retrofitting 11 Primary Healthcare Centres across Ukwa East Local Government Area.

‎Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the event as a defining moment for Ndoki, saying the hospital will catalyze community development.

‎The land donor, HRM. Eze Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, thanked Otti for the project, while the King of Ikwuorie community requested additional support, including electricity, smart schools, and road construction.
