The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and other supervisory officers to strengthen command and control in their jurisdictions.
Giwa gave the directive on Thursday during the Command’s monthly strategic conference at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.
He said the directive is in line with instructions issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at a recent conference with strategic senior officers.
The CP charged officers to uphold professionalism and integrity, and warned that corruption, extortion, and disrespect for citizens’ rights would not be tolerated.
He added that supervisory officers would be held vicariously liable for such misconduct.
Giwa also directed Area Commanders, DPOs, the Head of the Distress Response Squad, DRS, the Commander and Sub-Commanders of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, and other operational commanders to sustain visibility policing and intensify raids of criminal hideouts across the state.
He further tasked the Head of the Command’s Intelligence Department and other intelligence officers to strengthen intelligence gathering to support crime-fighting operations.
The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police heading departments and formations, Area Commanders, DPOs, and heads of units and sections.
It featured step-down training presentations by DCP Hope Isiani Okereke, Deputy Commissioner, State CID; CSP Chukwuka Odum, Officer-in-Charge, VCRU Anti-Kidnapping Sub-Unit; and an enlightenment session on the Liquor Act by CSP Justice Attah, the Command’s Legal Officer.
