First Abia Monthly Sanitation Exercise for 2026 Holds Saturday

‎In continuation of its efforts to ensure that Abia environment remains clean, the Abia State government says the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of January will hold on Saturday, January 31st, 2026 between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.

‎A statement issued to journalists on Thursday by the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, through the Public Relations Officer, Obioma Chidinma, said movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted.

‎Making further clarifications, the Ministry stated that only those on essential duties would be allowed passage on presentation of a valid identification or any authentic authorisation warranting such exemption.

‎While highlighting the importance of all to participate in the exercise, the statement enjoined LG Chairmen in the 17 LGAs of the state, Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organisations in the State to monitor and sensitize their people on the need for them to participate actively.

‎The statement hinted that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises shall remain closed on Friday January 30, 2026 between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.

‎It further urged men of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to assemble at their usual place of take-off for onward deployment.

‎The statement called on Abians to stay at home, clean up their surroundings and endeavour to work with their nose masks, warning that defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
