Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu, has dismissed claims that the House was frustrating efforts to amend the Electoral Act, 2022.
Speaking at his country home in Bende, Abia State on Friday, Kalu said the House had exerted significant effort to finalise the Electoral Act document.
Recall that a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, had expressed concern over loopholes in the Act, warning that Senate delays might undermine the credibility of the 2027 elections.
Reacting, Kalu stressed that the House had completed its work and assured that when the Senate resumes in 2026, it would finalise action on the Bill.
He also clarified his call for Gov. Alex Otti to join APC was not personal, but aimed at aligning Abia with the Federal Government.
Kalu added that Otti had strengthened APC in the state, and his membership would prevent Abia from being sidelined on Southern issues.
