‎In a bid to promote inclusivity, the Abia State Disability Commission on Friday donated wheelchairs and other assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

‎During the presentation in Umuahia, Chairman David Anyaele stated that the initiative aims to promote inclusivity and improve the quality of life for PWDs.

‎Anyaele said provisions were made for 85 beneficiaries in the first phase of the distribution exercise.

‎He described the gesture as a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable members of society.

‎“The assistive devices will help persons with physical disabilities live with dignity and respect,” he said.

‎He added that the devices would enhance mobility, empowerment and participation in the socio-economic development of their communities.

‎Anyaele lauded Gov. Alex Otti for consistently prioritising the needs and care of Persons with Disabilities.

‎He said the governor directed all ministries, departments and agencies to prioritise PWDs in policies, programmes and activities.

‎“In 2026, all ministries are expected to show how PwDs benefit from their work and sustain the Disability Law,” Anyaele said.

‎Responding, beneficiaries’ representative, David Onuoha, thanked the government, saying, “This has never happened before in Abia.”

‎He added, “We are very happy and pledge our unalloyed support to our able governor.”
