As part of efforts to give added impetus to the fight against crime and criminality in the State, the Abia State Police Command has disbanded its Quick Intervention Unit while establishing a new strike force.
A statement on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, ordered the disbandment of the Quick Intervention Unit (QIU) on issues of unprofessional misconduct.
According to the statement, the move is part of the Command’s continuous fight against unprofessional conduct by officers and in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to build a professionally competent, service driven, rule of law compliant and people friendly Police Force.
The statement added that this will further strengthen the operational efficiency of the Command just as the established new tactical unit, “Strike Force” is commanded by DSP Eze Augustine Eke, as an Intervention Team.
DSP Chinaka further revealed that this unit comprises well-trained, disciplined and combat ready officers strategically deployed as an additional tactical team to combat crime in the state.
While admonishing the newly inaugurated team, the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, charged the team to uphold professionalism, remain disciplined, and ensure strict compliance with the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to professionalism in the discharge of the constitutional mandate of the force in line with the vision of the IGP.
