Abia Govt Approves Establishment of New Umuahia City

The State Government has given approval for the establishment of a new Umuahia City

The General Manager of Umuahia Capital Development Authority, Mr Kingsley Agomoh, who disclosed this while addressing House Committee members on GADA, GODA and UCDA, who came on an oversight function, said the activities of the Agency are now being computerised.

Agomoh explained that the installation of material testing laboratory in the Agency by the State Government is nearing completion, pointing out that on completion, it will check the incidents of building collapse and lauded the present administration for its support to the Agency.

He enumerated some of the innovations of the Agency aimed at ensuring orderliness and improving on the aesthetics of the state to include: getting a place in Afara Ibeku for the relocation of Traders at Isigate, moving the Railway Station Umuahia to the One Stop Central Bus Terminal, while plans are on to open up a road that will link Goods Shed through Railway to Bende Road Tower.

Speaking, the Chairman House of Assembly Committee on GADA GODA and UCDA and Chief Whip of the House, Mr Emeka Obioma, said the visit has allowed them to familiarize themselves with the Agency and pledged their Legislative support to ensure the Agency functions optimally in line with its mandate

Other Members of the House Committee include: the Members representing Ohafia South, Chief Mba Kalu Nwoke and the Member representing Ikwuano State Constituency, Mr Boniface Isienyi urged the Agency to do more in enhancing the aesthetics of the State Capital and ensuring orderly physical development.
