…urges Focus And Law-Abiding Conduct
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, smicm, has charged young people to remain focused, law-abiding and worthy ambassadors of their families and professions.
He gave the charge during an interactive session with legal interns from Obra Legal Law Practice, Enugu.
The CP addressed questions on Police professionalism, discipline, proactive policing and crime-fighting, as well as the legal framework governing the use of firearms by Police officers under the Constitution, the Nigeria Police Act, 2020 (as amended), and Force Order 237.
CP Giwa also explained the role of security patrols and stop-and-search operations in crime prevention. He stressed that Police officers have no right to search citizens’ phones during such operations except where a phone is lawfully subject to an investigation.
He urged the interns and the public to promptly report acts of Police misconduct or unprofessionalism, assuring that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against any officer found culpable.
The team, led by Daniel Aloh, Esq., Senior Associate at Obra Legal Law Practice, thanked the Commissioner for the opportunity to engage with him on policing and legal issues.
He commended the Command’s security efforts and assured that the interns would apply the knowledge gained from the engagement and continue to support lawful policing.
Meanwhile, as part of activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day, IYD, CP Giwa congratulated the youths of Enugu State and urged them to remain focused, law-abiding and committed to their aspirations.
He cautioned them against cultism, social, economic and political vices, and other forms of criminality. He also urged eligible youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and participate responsibly in the 2027 general elections.
The CP warned against allowing themselves to be used as political thugs or agents of violence and electoral malpractice, noting that offenders would face the legal consequences of their actions.
The Commissioner further invited Enugu youths to the official launch of the Nigeria Police Force National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery and a Police-Youth Dialogue scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the State.
The event is part of activities marking International Youth Day 2026 and the Nigeria Police Force National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative, aimed at promoting peaceful, free and fair _2027_ general elections.
