Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
In a letter to the PDP Ward Chairman, he cited the party’s internal crises and thanked the party for opportunities to serve in various capacities.
The letter reads: “It is with immense regret that I write to inform you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. I have taken time to reflect on my journey with the party and appreciate the opportunities given me to serve.
However, the party’s sad and intractable crises have led me to take this painful decision after consultations with associates and supporters.”
Akobundu’s next move is unclear, but speculation suggests he might join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
His resignation letter didn’t mention a specific party, leaving his future plans uncertain.
