Southeastposts can now confirm that the Anambra State government has shut down 54 hospitals and clinics across the state between January 2023 and December 2025 after investigations revealed unprofessional conduct in these facilities.

‎The Ministry of Health confirmed the closure, adding that 15 of the facilities have since reopened after meeting the required standards.

‎Southeastposts reports that the move is part of the state’s plan to improve healthcare and ensure medical services meet high standards under Governor Charles Soludo’s administration.

‎Among the hospitals affected is the state-owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Amaku-Awka.

‎Also, the Ministry of Health also shared updates on emergency medical services in the state.

‎Southeastposts reports that since the launch of the Anambra State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System in May 2023, the programme has expanded from 10 ambulances to over 60, covering all 21 local government areas.

‎The government has received plans from 588 additional emergency transport units, including 315 tricycle ambulances for rural areas and maternal health services.

‎Seven boat ambulances have also been deployed to serve riverine communities just as the state government said the expanded ambulance service ensures that residents in both urban and rural areas can access timely emergency care.

‎Health facilities across the state have been linked to the emergency system, improving patient referrals and reducing delays in care.
