Residents, Tricycle Operators, Lament Poor State of Mgboko Okpulo Road in Obingwa

Following difficulties encountered assessing the Mgboko Okpulo Road in Obingwa LGA of Abia State, residents of Obingwa, Aba, tricycle operators, staff of Obingwa LGA, have appealed to the Obingwa LG Council Mayor, Dr. Eric Egwuibe and by extension, Abia State government to do something to fix the poor state of the road.

A resident of the area who gave his name as Ihekwuemere Amaechi, said though the road was abandoned by the previous administration of Okezie Ikpeazu, he expects the current administration in the State under Governor Alex Otti, to do something to change the poor state of the road.

Amaechi revealed that the road is very strategic especially as it is a short cut to assessing different villages in Obingwa, Isiala Ngwa South, Aba among others, calling on the LGA Council Mayor, Dr. Eric Egwuibe to at least do little palliative especially in front of the Council to allow free flow of movement.

He contended that if the road and portions that are bad are fixed, it will further promote economic activities as people will be plying the road to ship farm produce to the urban areas where they will make good profit.

Another resident of the area who pleaded anonymity told southeastposts.com that it was unfortunate that the road after one year it was abandoned by previous administration, has remained in its sorry state up till now, wondering how the Staff, Councilors, visitors to the Council, the LG Mayor, manage to assess the Council.

He called on the Council Mayor and the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti to work in synergy and fix the road which according to him, will benefit the people of the area among others.

Also speaking, a tricycle operator, Enyeribe Onyedika, acknowledged that the road has been bad for years but said since it is a new dawn in the history of Abia State, Keke Operators that ply the road expect that Governor Alex Otti will fix it to ease their sufferings, adding that staff of the Council lament seriously each time they board their tricycles.

Some of the Staff of the Council who pleaded anonymity said the poor state of the road has made them pay heavily on transport especially when it rains. They added that in some cases, tricycle operators refuse plying the route appealing to Governor Alex Otti to do something just as they urged the Mayor to embark on palliative measure on the road to ease their sufferings.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Mayor, Obingwa LGA Council Dr. Eric Egwuibe, was yet to respond to inquiry made by southeastposts.com, to find out what steps the Council is taking to ensure the road is fixed.
