The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has leased its Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre in Enugu to the Enugu State Government for 15 years to boost digital skills and innovation.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday at Government House, Enugu, as part of efforts to align with President Bola Tinubu’s digital economy agenda and Governor Peter Mbah’s drive to make Enugu a tech hub.
Under the deal, the facilities will now operate as the Enugu Talent City and Artificial Intelligence, AI, Institute.
NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the partnership would position Enugu as a destination for digital services, AI, startup incubation and outsourcing.
He noted that the facilities were built to deepen digital skills, support startups, attract investment and create jobs, stressing that “buildings alone do not create innovation. People do.”
Maida also commended Mbah’s Smart Green Schools initiative, saying it shows leadership with the future in mind amid the rise of AI and automation.
Governor Mbah thanked President Tinubu for prioritising the digital economy and said AI is projected to contribute about $20 trillion to the global economy by 2030. He said Enugu is positioning to tap from that growth.
