Gov Otti Receives Egyptian Pharma Firm, Offers Land For Drug Plant In Abia

‎…says Investment Will Create Jobs, Make Abia Hub For Pharma In West Africa

‎UMUAHIA — Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said his administration will support Utopia, an Egyptian pharmaceutical company, to establish a drug manufacturing plant in the state.
‎
‎The Governor disclosed this after receiving a delegation from the company led by Dr. Kamel Mohamed. The visit was facilitated by Eze Apostle Gift Chibuzor Chinyere.
‎
‎In a post on his official X handle, Governor Otti said he was excited about the company’s proposal.
‎
‎“Beyond selling products, this is about production, job creation, technology transfer, and boosting our State’s GDP,” he said.
‎
‎The Governor stated that the state government is committed to supporting the investment and will provide land for the project.
‎
‎He encouraged the company to consider the Ukwa or Osisioma axis due to the steady power supply from Geometric Power.
‎
‎According to him, the partnership has the potential to make Abia a hub for advanced pharmaceutical technology in Nigeria and West Africa.
‎
‎“Our administration will give every necessary support to ensure its success,” Gov. Otti added.

‎Boost For Health Sector, Economy
‎
‎The proposed plant is expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported drugs while creating jobs and transferring technology to local workers.
‎
‎Abia has in recent times been positioning itself as a destination for industrial investments, leveraging infrastructure such as the Geometric Power plant in Aba to attract manufacturers.
