As the Governor Alex Otti led administration continues to place premium on education, the State Government has expressed its readiness to employ 2,500 teachers to address the shortage of teachers and ensure adequate staffing across primary and secondary schools in the state.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Mr Goodluck Ubochi, disclosed this on Tuesday at a press conference on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, in Umuahia.

Ubochi said that the initiative would serve as a means of improving the quality of education in the state, adding that applications for the job would be processed online to ensure transparency and accessibility.

He also said that the details about the application process would be made public by Friday.

He also hinted that the government had established a taskforce named ā€œEducation Marshallsā€ to drive the enforcement of its Free and Compulsory Basic Education programme.

The Commissioner said that the taskforce would ensure that all school-age children in the state would be in school during school hours.

According to him, children found loitering during school hours would be taken to the nearest school, with their parents or guardians contacted to address the situation.
