Enugu Police Holds Walkathon To Mark International Youth Day 2026

ENUGU – The Enugu State Police Command on Friday held a Walkathon through major streets in Enugu metropolis as part of activities marking the Nigeria Police Force International Youth Day 2026 celebration.

‎The exercise was held under the National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative, with participants engaging residents and road users on the need to promote peace and security, reject violence, and shun political thuggery and other forms of criminality.

‎A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the Walkathon was anchored on the International Youth Day 2026 theme, _“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,”_ and the NPF Special National Campaign theme, _“My Future is Greater Than Political Thuggery.”_

‎Ndukwe said the initiative is aimed at strengthening police-youth relations, promoting responsible citizenship and encouraging young people to reject the use of violence in political and social activities.

‎He disclosed that activities will continue on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with a Police-Youth Dialogue at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.

‎According to him, the event will feature the formal launch of the Police Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery, providing a platform for youths, police personnel and other stakeholders to interact and strengthen collaborative efforts towards a safer society.

‎The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, smicm, commended participants and citizens for their cooperation.

‎He invited youths, student leaders, and stakeholders to participate in Saturday’s Police-Youth Dialogue, aimed at deepening police-youth engagement and mobilizing collective action against political and digital thuggery, violence and other social vices.
