The Abia State Police Command has announced plans to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day with a walkathon and youth dialogue session in Umuahia.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the event is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to promote youth engagement and strengthen community policing nationwide.
The programme, under the National Youth and Security Initiative with the theme _“Different Context, Common Aspirations,”_ is scheduled for Thursday, 20th August 2026.
It will begin with a Walkathon at 7:30 AM from Okpara Square, Umuahia, aimed at promoting unity and encouraging youth participation in community policing.
The main event will hold at 2:00 PM at the Police Officers’ Mess, opposite Damgrete Hotel, Umuahia. Activities include the launch of the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery themed _“My Future is Greater than Political and Digital Thuggery”_ and a moderated Police–Youth Dialogue Session.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, urged youths and stakeholders to participate actively, noting that the programme provides a platform for constructive dialogue and partnership in building a safer society.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to youth inclusion in security discussions and to promoting peace and sustainable development in Abia State.
