Mbah Approves Distribution of 63,000 Bags of Fertilisers, Farm Inputs to Enugu Farmers

ENUGU — The Enugu State Government has approved the free distribution of over 63,000 bags of organic and inorganic fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to registered farmers across the 17 local government areas of the state.

‎The Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Dr. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, said the intervention was approved by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as part of efforts to boost food security and agricultural transformation.

‎He said the 2026 programme, the largest yet under the Mbah administration, will be officially flagged off on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 9:00 am at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.

‎In addition to fertilisers, registered farmers will receive agrochemicals, cassava stems, improved tomato, pepper, rice and maize seeds, and other essential inputs aimed at increasing productivity and strengthening food production.

‎Ubru said the expansion reflects the success of previous interventions. In 2024, the administration distributed 12,000 bags of fertilisers alongside seedlings, cassava stems, herbicides, power tillers and other inputs in a programme valued at over N4.6 billion.

‎In 2025, the government increased distribution to over 40,000 bags of fertilisers and extended support to more than 60,000 registered farmers. The state attributed the expansion to bumper harvests recorded and its impact on food availability and prices of staple crops.

‎“This year’s programme represents the biggest intervention yet,” Ubru said. “With over 63,000 bags of fertilisers and an expanded package of agricultural inputs, the government aims to reach even more beneficiaries while accelerating agricultural productivity and improving rural incomes.”

‎The Commissioner said shortlisted registered farmers will receive SMS notifications from ENSAgric inviting them to collect their allocated inputs. He urged beneficiaries to attend the flag-off ceremony.

‎He reaffirmed that Governor Mbah’s administration remains committed to equipping farmers to increase production, create wealth, strengthen food security, and position agriculture as a driver of sustainable economic growth in Enugu State.
