Imo Govt to Enroll 2.7 million Residents into Health Insurance Scheme

The Imo State Government says all is now set for the enrollment of 2.7 million residents into the state’s Health Insurance Scheme.

According to the Executive Secretary of Imo State Health Insurance Scheme, Uchenna Ewelike, the initiative is the largest single health insurance enrolment in Sub-Saharan Africa.

He revealed that the move which he said is germane, will cover about 2.7 million persons across 654 communities, with a distribution of 100,000 per local government area of the state and will commence on the 20th day of March.

Ewelike said: “We are challenging the status quo, daring the Nigerian Universal Health Coverage drive.

“From Tuesday May 20th 2025, we are commencing the largest single health insurance enrollment in Sub Saharan Africa, 2.7million enrollees in 654 communities @ 100,000/LGA by the Imo State Health Insurance Agency.
