Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has dismissed claims of high taxation, calling them “a pathetic misconception” promoted by opposition and beneficiaries of the old order.
Mbah said his administration grew the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by widening the tax net, blocking leakages, and tackling sharp practices.
He noted that the state government doesn’t control tax rates, as that’s the federal government’s prerogative.
Mbah highlighted IGR growth: N26.8bn (2022), N37.4bn (2023), N180.5bn (2024), and N406.7bn (2025).
According to him, his administration reduced payable amounts for certain services by 70%, especially in land sectors, adding that a new law aims to eliminate roadblocks and unauthorised collections.
He added that the government will enforce and educate to check extortion.
