Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has urged Igbos to adopt strategic politics to regain a central role in national decision-making.
He expressed concern that the South East zone has been politically fragmented and disconnected from the federal government in recent years.
Mbah spoke at Government House, Enugu, when he received the City Boy Movement, a group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.
He emphasised that Igbo forebears were known for strategic politics, not sentimental or isolationist approaches.
”We’re not at the table where critical national issues are discussed. We should be at number six in the order of protocol, which is the Deputy Speaker,” Mbah said. He noted that the zone’s recent fragmentation seems to be ending, with unified leadership in the South East.
Mbah praised President Tinubu’s economic policies, saying they’ve eased macroeconomic pressures and addressed uncertainties. He believes Nigerians will re-elect Tinubu as the Renewed Hope Agenda’s benefits reach the masses.
Obinna Iyiegbu, South East Coordinator of City Boy Movement, acknowledged that the South East lost ground through isolationist politics but has learned to build strategic alliances.
He regretted that other regions win presidential elections without Igbo votes due to the region’s politics.
