The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has backed the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu on his position regarding the allocation accruing to the state from the federation account, calling for accountability and transparency.
APC said it has observed with concern, the growing tension and unwarranted mudslinging directed at the person of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, following his remarks during the road commissioning at the Aba Township Stadium on October 3rd, and his subsequent engagement at Abia Hotels, Umuahia, on October 5th, 2025.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Abia State Chapter, Hon Uche Egboka, the party said it stands firmly with the Deputy Speaker on his position that, based on available records, the Abia State Government has received an average of N38 billion monthly between April and June 2025 as total revenue.
The party decried that the statements of the Deputy Speaker, which bordered on the issues of transparency , accountability and good governance in the Labour Party led Abia State Government, have been met with needless personal attacks instead of constructive engagement.
While highlighting the importance of proper utilization of resources, the APC said based on empirical evidence, the number and scope of ongoing projects in the state are not commensurate with the over N1 trillion received since the inception of the present administration.
Abia APC added that the above aligns with the Deputy Speaker’s call for more transparency and the execution of projects that truly reflect the huge funds received to
impact the lives of Abians.
Responding to the N54 billion spent on the repair of public schools, Abia APC called for thorough investigation on the renovation of 51 public schools in 2024, which has remained a subject of controversy to date.
Furthermore, the party backed Benjamin Kalu’s call for the payment of outstanding gratuities and the full implementation of the national minimum wage as approved and signed into law by the Federal Government.
Speaking on the position of the Deputy Speaker in rescuing Abia State, the APC also affirmed its commitment to rescue the state from poor governance while expressing confidence that the All Progressives Congress will take over the leadership of Abia State in 2027 through the collective will of the people.
Abia APC stated that it remains committed to aligning with the Federal Government to promote good governance, accountability, and the welfare of all Abians.
