In a bid to show the premium Imo State Government places on education, the State Government says it has commenced the construction of 105 new primary and secondary school buildings across the state’s 27 local government areas.
A statement on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, said the project represents the first phase of a transformative education upgrade programme.
He said, “The Imo State Government has commenced construction of 105 new buildings across primary and secondary schools in all 27 LGAs, marking the launch of the first phase of a transformative educational upgrade programme,” the statement read.
Ugochukwu hinted that the initiative is aimed at addressing the shortage of classrooms and improving learning conditions in schools.
Continuing, “This vital effort, designed to tackle shortages of classroom facilities and improve overall learning conditions, was revealed by the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB). It stands as a key pillar in Governor Hope Uzodimma’s vision to deliver accessible, high-quality education to children throughout the state,” he added.
According to the statement, contractors have been directed to adhere strictly to project timelines.
Similarly, the state government has also begun the process of recruiting teachers for schools in the 27 local councils.
Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, enjoined shortlisted candidates to check their names with the Executive Secretaries of Education in their respective councils and proceed with the next stages of the recruitment process.
