The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has called on her National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje to investigate the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha over alleged anti-party activities.
In a petition read out to newsmen on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital, by the State Chairman All Progressives Congress in Ukwa East LGA, Chief William Nwanguma, addressed to the National Chairman APC, Abdullahi Ganduje , he pointed out that the Minister had voiced her support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti (who is a member of the Labour Party), for a second term by calling on the traditional rulers and the people of Umunneochi to support and work for the governor’s second term in office.
He opined that this happened at an event to flag off road construction on Friday, 28th February, at Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
Nwanguma further stated that the above call and drumming of support for the re-election of the governor by the former Deputy Chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives, using the APC platform is termed as an anti-party activity which has not only embarrassed him, but the party in the state and the Nation at large.
He said he is of the opinion that the conduct and utterance of the Minister, if not condemned and sanctioned by the party, would have dire consequences in the 2027 general election adding that Abia state APC remains the fastest growing state chapter of the ruling party.
He therefore called on the National Working Committee of the party to look into the matter objectively and hand down appropriate sanctions to the Honorable Minister and also serve as deterrent to those who may want to tow the same path in the build up to the 2027 general elections.
The petition reads:
3rd March, 2025.
The National Chairman,
All Progressives Congress,
Buhari House,
Blantyre Street,
Wuse 2, Abuja.
Dear Sir,
Petition Against the Anti-Party Activity of Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha: The Honorable Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
The above subject matter refers.
May I as a concerned stakeholder of Abia State chapter of our great Party, the APC, bring to your esteemed attention and knowledge, the anti-party activity of the Honorable Minister of State, Labour and Employment and former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha.
On Friday, 28th February 2025, at a State road flag off event at Umunneochi LGA of Abia State, which the Honorable Minister attended being her LGA., she expressed her support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti for a second term and called on the traditional rulers and people of Umunneochi to support and work for the Governor’s second term in office.
The Governor of Abia State, not being a member of APC, the above call and canvass of re-election support for him by no less a person than a former Deputy Chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives and a member of the Federal Executive Council of Nigeria elected and appointed respectively under the platform of our great Party is an anti-party activity and or conduct which has embarrassed me and other well meaning members of the party in the state and the nation.
Mr. Chairman, the conduct and utterances of the Honorable Minister if not condemned and sanctioned by the Party, will have adverse consequences in the 2027 general elections. It will paint a picture of a state chapter that is not interested in winning local and national elections and thereby engender hatred, contempt, ridicule and or disrepute for our party.
Your Excellency, the Abia State APC remains the fastest growing State chapter of our great party as majority of opposition parties have collapsed under her to unseat the Governor in the face of his non-performance and personalization of governance. Included in this plot are the main line-up members of the Labour Party who are not happy that the Governor have factionalized their Party in the bid to hijack same.
It is therefore sad, disheartening, inglorious, and wickedly for the Honorable Minister to not only harbor such a thought but also express same against a Party that the State Executive, Leaders, Stakeholders and Members are working hard to bring to winning ways.
May I call on the National Working Committee through your good office to look into this matter objectively and hand down appropriate sanctions in the event it finds merit in this petition so as to serve as deterrent to those who may want to tow this ugly path in the build up to the 2027 general elections.
Accept please, the assurance of my high regards at all times.
Chief William Nwanguma
APC Chieftain, Ukwa East LGA.
