The Abia Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna has appealed to traders at Ahia Ukwu Olokoro Umuahia, Abia State, to endeavor to keep the market premises clean to ensure a healthy environment.

The Commissioner who spoke while addressing traders during the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of January, decried the situation in the market, saying it was wrong for them to be buying and selling in a dirty environment.

He enjoined them to assist the Governor Alex Otti led administration to ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the State wear a good outlook, emphasizing that maintaining a healthy environment remains the best option to staying healthy at all times.

Mr.Ogbonna warned them to imbibe the spirit of keeping the market environment and by extension their homes clean, cautioning that the state government will not be lenient on them in subsequent sanitation days.

On his part, the Deputy General Manager, Abia State Government Protection Agency, ASEPA, Umuahia One, Catechist Jonah Ambrose, frowned at their inability to clean their environment before doing their business.

He added that going forward, they will be arrested for defaulting Abia Environmental Sanitation Law, assuring that ASEPA buckets and bags will be provided to properly dispose their refuse just as he urged them to assist the Governor Alex Otti led administration in the State to ensure that Abia State remains clean.
