Abia State Government has notified the public that the Monthly Sanitation Exercise for January will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Abia State from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
In a press release issued by Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, the Commissioner for Environment, the government specified that movement of people and vehicles will be restricted during this period, except those on essential duties who must present valid identification or authorization upon request.
Local Government Council Executive Chairmen, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religious leaders, and youth and women organizations are urged to monitor, sensitize, and participate in the exercise.
The release urged the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to assemble at their designated locations for deployment just as it further instructed residents to stay home, clean their surroundings, and wear nose masks.
Violators according to the release will face arrest and prosecution under the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
