Abia Govt Begins Removing Materials Blocking Big Gutter

The Abia State Government has commenced the removal of materials that blocked the big gutter around the state capital and other streets of Umuahia

Speaking while monitoring the exercise, the General Manager of Umuahia Capital Development Authority, Mr Kingsley Agomoh, said the exercise was to ensure the free flow of water and guarantee the health of the people.

Mr. Agomoh explained that most of the drainages have not been de-silted for many years, while the big gutter was blocked due to the activities of people who dump refuse into it.

The UCDA General Manager expressed happiness that all the materials that blocked the big gutter have been cleared by the present administration, which is so much concerned about providing a good environment for the people.

He advised the residents and those living around the big gutter, as well as other streets including Obowo, Asaba Awolowo Eket, and Aba road timber, among others, to stop dumping refuse into the gutter and support government efforts at ensuring that all gutters are clean.

The UCDA General Manager said that the governor, Dr Alex Otti, is desirous of ensuring that Abians enjoy dividends of democracy which his administration is vigorously doing.

Mr Agomoh expressed satisfaction with the work done by the contractor handling the desilting exercise

Also speaking, some residents of Obowo Street Asaba including Mr Daniel Onwuegbochi and Okwudiri Nwaiwu who expressed gratitude to the governor, Dr. Alex Otti for the work, explained that this is the first time residents of the area are witnessing such life touching project

They thanked the Governor for installing streetlights in the area which has helped in checking criminal activities.
