Abia Assembly Passes HAB 21, Screens Nominees for ABSIEC

The Abia State House of Assembly, on Tuesday passed HAB 21, The Abia State 2024 Appropriation Virement Bill into Law.

The Bill, now Law, sponsored by the Majority Leader, Okoro Uchenna Kalu, sought to Vire the sum of One Hundred and Seventy One Billion, Seventy Four Million, Six Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty Five Naira only, in the 2024 Abia State Appropriation Law for the services of the Government of Abia State of Nigeria for the year ending 31st Day of December, 2024 and for other related purposes.

Also during Plenary, nominees for the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC were screened and cleared with Professor George Chima as Chairman.

Dr. Kelechi Okere, Joseph Uzoma Akara, Bertha Ehumadu and Nkemdirim Kalu were also part of the nominees cleared.

Ekele Queen Ahuchaogu and Onyemauche Elekwe were absent, so were not screened.

Also on Tuesday, Mrs Eke Ngozi Ogbonnaya-Ugwu was screened and cleared for the position of Auditor-General of Abia State.

The day’s Plenary was presided over by Rt Hon Augustine Okezie, Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly.

Recall that the House had embarked on their annual recess and expected to resume by the 25th of September, 2024.
