Court asks Abia Govt to withdraw Staff of Office Issued to Eberechukwu Oji

…says Godwin Idei is the Eze Aro

A High Court in Abia State sitting in Umunneochi Judicial Division, presided by His Lordship Hon. Justice Chido Nwakanma, has ordered Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Eni Kanu Oji to stop parading himself as the Eze Aro.

The Court also ruled and directed the Attorney General of Abia State, Barr Ikechukwu Uwanna; the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti; Prince Uzor Nwachukwu (KSC); and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftiancy Affairs to withdraw the Staff of Office handed to Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Eni Kanu Oji.

Revealing the outcome of the ruling of the Court which had its sitting on Wednesday July 31, 2024. in a statement, titled “COURT UPDATE ON EZEAROSHIP” issued to newsmen at the weekend by the Director of Palace Communications, Mazi Dr Agodi Kanu, he stated that the High Court of Abia State, Umunneochi Judicial Division, ruled that His Majesty Idei Kanu Okoro Oke was already crowned as at 20th October, 2023 prior the institution of the suit.

The statement recalled that during the hearing from Counsels to Plaintiff and Defendants, the Court restrained Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Eni Kanu Oji from parading himself as Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom.

It was revealed that the Court also restrained all the Respondents and their Agents from harassing, intimidating or threatening the 19 Eze Ogos, Eze Asaga, Eze Ezeagwu,Eze IbomIsii with dethronement, arrest and detention in whatever manner.

The statement said, “The Court finally restrained all the Respondents and their Agents in whatever name or nomenclature from harassing, intimidating or threatening the 19 Eze Ogos, Eze Asaga, Eze Ezeagwu,Eze IbomIsii with dethronement, arrest and detention in whatever manner.

Continuing, “The implication of these Orders are that: (a) in the eyes of the law, Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Eni Kanu Oji was never crowned Eze Aro. (b) The Staff of Office and Certificate of Recognition issued him on 26th January, 2024 is now in the hands of HM Eze Godwin Kanu
Idei Kanu Okoro Oke. (c) The said Coronation celebration that held between 25th and 27th July, 2024 was at best a jamboree

Furthermore, the statement hinted that the purported 2024 Ikeji Aro circulating and signed by Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Eni Kanu Oji by reason of the court order, should be disregarded adding that the earlier released Calendar signed by His Majesty Eze Godwin Kanu Idei Kanu
Okoro Oke in green pen remain unchallenged and sacred.

The statement, however, urged Umu Aro to remain peaceful, law abiding and go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment and intimidation, revealing that in days ahead, His Majesty Eze Godwin Kanu Idei Kanu Okoro Oke, the IX Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom will dole out some reforms that will strengthen the institution for effective service delivery.

While responding to the outcome of the ruling, His Majesty Idei Kanu Okoro Oke described the ruling of the court as victory for Umu Aro while urging them to close ranks with a view to rescuing and restoring the dwindling glory and status before their immediate neighbours,

“In the coming days, His Majesty Eze Godwin Kanu Idei Kanu Okoro Oke, the IX Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom will roll out some reforms that will strengthen our institution for optimum service delivery.
