Abia State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects involved in gun running as well as recovered seven firearms.
The Command gave the names of the suspects as: Nworu John (male), Chikezie Ubani (male) and Collins Ukandu (male).
A statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said, “In the early hours of Thursday, 11th December, 2025, operatives of Abia State Police Command acting on credible and actionable intelligence, recovered seven (7) assorted firearms at Obingwa LGA, Abia state during a targeted intelligence-led operation.
”The operatives apprehended three notorious gun runners identified as Nworu John male, 65 years, Chikezie Ubani, male 65 years; and Collins Ukandu male, 55 years.
”Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two automatic pump-action guns, three locally-made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, one locally fabricated six-round revolver and four live cartridges. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and investigation continues.
Similarly, the Command in the statement further said, “In furtherance of the Command’s sustained efforts to ensure the protection of lives and property before, during and after the yuletide season, arms have been recovered, suspects have been arraigned for various crimes and successfully prosecuted in court, adding that covert and overt operational strategies are firmly in place to ensure continued security in the State.”
DSP Chinaka said the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has assured Abians of the Command’s sustained commitment to combat crime no matter the form.
