The people of Umunkwasi in Owoahiafo village, Obingwa LGA of Abia State woke up to a disturbing situation on Monday, as a man in his 70s identified as Mr Iheanyi Benji Ogbonna, was spotted in a frog posture near his compound, suggesting that something was amiss.
The troubling situation attracted people of the community, passersby among others, who were already on their way to Owoahiafo market which comes up every Afo Day.
It was gathered that the situation which threw the community into awe, further sent shock waves around with many suggesting that the gods of Ngwa Land, had trapped him alleging that he had embarked on witchcraft journey and was coming back from the mission before nemesis caught up with him.
Meanwhile, a source who pleaded anonymity told Southeastposts that the elderly man, in his 70s, was the eldest in a family of 6, adding that he was not married.
The source revealed that the terrifying incident happened around 2am, Monday night when those who were taking their products to the market discovered him and raised alarm which further attracted the attention of others.
He told Southeastposts that the elderly man remained in that position till around 4pm in the evening when his brothers came with an ambulance and evacuated the corpse.
According to the source, before now, people had accused him of being diabolic, emphasizing that to some people, it didn’t come as a surprise that he was spotted in that kind of abominable position.
He revealed that his prayers has always been for God to continue exposing people with bad intentions, adding that he still believes that Ngwa land is a sacred place no matter how people try to avoid being exposed.
In his words,”For some of us in the community, we know that Dee Iheanyi is a bad man. There has been a whole lot of accusations dangling on his neck, but we decided to keep quiet, waiting for an appointed time, and thank God he has been exposed. We are Ngwa people, this kind of thing happens, Ala Ngwa still remains a sacred land that does not spare anyone whose hands are not clean.”.
Another source in the community said people have been jubilating over his mysterious death, saying that the deceased who did not have any handiwork, returned from Anambra State 6 years ago and since then, had been a thorn in people’s flesh as he enjoyed all the family wealth, lands left behind by his late father.
She alleged that he had always threatened to kill people especially whenever there was any minor confrontation involving him and others, pointing out that even the entire community seem to be afraid of him which is why there was wide jubilation and celebration when he was confirmed dead.
According to the source, “The mysterious death of this man, has indeed thrown the entire Umunkwasi village into wide jubilation. He was indeed a bad man, everyone around him was afraid of him because while alive he bragged of having powers to kill others. What I can say is, I just pray and wish that the wicked ones would be disgraced in that manner so that our society would be a better place for all,”.
